Tasting notes
Dark ruby in colour with layered aromas of black fruit, spice, and violet. On the palate: rich and ripe, with succulent dark berries and hints of sweet oak spice, finishing long, smooth and velvety.
Vinification
Grapes harvested at 24-25° Balling, vinified block by block using a variety of fermenters to build a spectrum of tannin and fruit profiles. After fermentation the wine underwent malolactic fermentation and was returned to barrel.
Ageing
15 months in a combination of new, second- and third-fill French and American oak barrels.
Food pairing
Hearty lasagna, a tender lamb knuckle potjie, or slow-roasted pork shoulder.
