In 1995 Jean-Claude Rouzaud discovered Château de Pez and its long history. Established in 1452, Château de Pez belonged for two centuries to the Pontac family — also owners of Château Haut-Brion and true innovators in the discovery of great terroirs. The Pez terroir stood out for its excellent exposure, in the company of a charming château. The property was unclassified, which gave rise to the tempting idea of waking the sleeping beauty. The decision became final after a tasting of Château de Pez's astonishing collection of old vintages. With its well-rounded, fine, elegant style, Pez embodies the idea of a Saint-Estèphe wine. This is how Château de Pez found its place in the "Roederer Collection" — a constellation of singular terroirs in France and around the world. This collection of resolutely modern wines belongs to a great tradition: produced in limited quantities, these wines aspire to become jewels in the crown of their region. With sacrifice, humility and dedication, the vineyards have been replanted over the past several years, and Château de Pez now has everything it needs to shape, proudly, a style of its own. Led by a dynamic team with the freedom to take initiative, the estate is making great strides in balance and production. The sleeping beauty now has all the makings of a Grand Cru.
