The story of Bach takes us back to 1915, when the brothers Pere and Ramon Bach i Escofet moved from Barcelona to Sant Esteve Sesrovires and bought the "Can Estrada" estate, which dates from the 18th century. With the income from their cotton trade, the Bach brothers were able to invest in building a winery, which they gradually expanded by buying new parcels until they had assembled a total of 365 hectares. The 1920 harvest, made up of the Xarel·lo and Macabeo varieties, marked Bach's long-awaited debut. Pere and Ramon Bach settled in the Penedès region with the idea of making wine destined for ageing, and went on to build a cellar 95 metres long, which they filled with 1,000 oak barrels bought at 50 pesetas each. The brothers developed the concept of their wine together with their technical team. From their roots in the textile trade came the name "Extrísimo" — the name given to the high-quality cotton imported from Egypt and India. The first bottles of Bach were also present at the legendary Barcelona International Exposition of 1929. The Civil War, however, dimmed some of the brilliance Bach had achieved in the roaring twenties and brought tragic consequences for the family: Ramon was killed, and Pere, who survived the fighting, was deeply shaken by the loss. A few years later, in 1942, he decided to sell the estate. In the years that followed, Bach changed hands several times; among other things, its successive owners ordered the construction of vast underground galleries for ageing cava while carrying out a commercial and oenological renewal of the winery. The winery changed hands once more in 1975, when it passed definitively to the Raventós family, who acquired the estate and brought Bach into their group of wineries. Much time has passed since then, but the spirit of the Bach brothers endures to this day: quality, originality and individuality in every Bach cava.
