Катена Запата

Мендоса · Аржентина

Catena Zapata's story starts in 1902, when Italian immigrant Nicola Catena planted his first Malbec vineyard in Mendoza. Three generations later, Nicolás Catena Zapata made the decisive move: planting at altitudes then considered too cold for ripening, including the Adrianna Vineyard in Gualtallary at nearly 1,500 metres. Cold nights and intense mountain sunlight produce Malbec with concentration and freshness in the same glass — an experiment that changed how the world reads Argentine wine. The fourth generation, Laura Catena, physician and winemaker, leads the family house today. The recognition matches the altitude: in 2026 the votes of merchants, buyers and Masters of Wine made Catena Zapata Drinks International's The World's Most Admired Wine Brand for the second consecutive year, and back in 2009 Decanter named Nicolás Catena its Man of the Year. Our catalogue carries the Catena and Catena Alta lines — Malbec and Chardonnay from high-altitude vineyards — alongside D.V. Catena Tinto Histórico, a nod to the blends of the family's early decades.
