The Castellani family business began in Montecalvoli at the end of the 1800s with Alfredo, a winegrower who decided to bottle and sell his own wine. His son Duilio, together with his own son Mario, set the company's expansion in motion. A few years later Giorgio, Duilio's eldest son, began exporting wine as well. In 1966 a great flood in Montecalvoli caused serious damage to the winery. Giorgio's brother Roberto left a career in journalism to join the family business, and in 1970 he began exporting the wines worldwide. The winery also grew, acquiring the Poggio al Casone estate. A new era opened in 1982, when Piergiorgio Castellani joined the team, representing the next generation — the same year the Campomaggio estate was acquired. Later his son Giacomo and grandson Tommaso joined as well. Today, having celebrated the Castellani family's 120th anniversary, the winery is devoted to producing wines that express Tuscany and beyond.
