The Gallo family's unwavering dedication to its vineyards and wines, stretching back more than a century, is rooted in the work and determination of family members Basilio, Stelio, Gianfranco and their relatives. Gianfranco, who has run the estate since 1978, introduced radical, far-reaching viticultural practices and devoted serious attention to winemaking technique — the reason for the distinctive character of the Vie di Romans wines over the past 40 years. A number of important steps mark this history. The first bottling and labelling for the market came in 1978, followed in 1982 by a reorganization of the vineyards aimed at raising quality. The first winery building went up in 1989. Since 1990 the wines from different vineyards have been vinified separately, and in 1992, with the release of the 1990 vintage, the practice was established of releasing all the white wines a full two years after the harvest. Vie di Romans wines can be found in distinguished restaurants around the world that showcase the Friuli region, and in many Michelin-starred establishments.
