The story of Ornellaia is one of vision and determination. Founded in 1981, Ornellaia immediately set out in pursuit of excellence, and it has always been an expression of the close bond between people and nature. From the launch of Ornellaia in 1985 to the beautiful Bellaria vineyards, from the debut of Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia — the first Second Wine in Italy — to the Vendemmia d'Artista project, in which artists and sculptors collaborate with the house, and the creation of Ornellaia Bianco, Ornellaia's story has moved at speed, and remains a source of pride and inspiration. Many men and women have shaped Ornellaia's history. Some are no longer with us, while many others are essential parts of Ornellaia today and are working for its future. The winery is owned by the Frescobaldi family; Marchese Ferdinando Frescobaldi is president of Ornellaia, alongside Giovanni Geddes da Filicaja, chief executive officer since 1999. The Ornellaia Archivio Storico — the estate's historical archive — was inaugurated in 2017, but its test of time has only just begun. Every vintage is a new page in Ornellaia's story. Forty years on from its founding, the name Ornellaia stands for the Italian way of life and a timeless elegance. Winemakers for 700 years, the Frescobaldi family combines creative thinking, the pursuit of excellence and a deep respect for tradition. Cultivating and celebrating local diversity has always been their philosophy, honouring the identity and independence of every wine estate they own.
