Attems is a name that spans the history of wine in Friuli Venezia Giulia. Documents confirm the Attems dynasty's ownership of land destined for viticulture in Collio as far back as 1106, and the production of Ribolla Gialla and Refosco can be found recorded in the region's principal ledgers from 1764. This centuries-old tradition made the winery a local point of reference, with Count Douglas Attems as its key figure — it was he who founded the Consorzio dei Vini del Collio (the wine consortium of Collio) in 1964, chronologically the third established in Italy and the first in the Friuli region. The story of Attems is thus interwoven with the history of the Patriarchate of Aquileia and the County of Gorizia, from the First World War to the present day. Owned by the Frescobaldi family since 2000, the Attems winery stands as a symbol of a fascinating past, an accomplished present and a future full of innovation.
