Тенута Луче

In the 1970s, Merlot first arrived in Montalcino thanks to the Frescobaldi family. So when Vittorio Frescobaldi met Robert Mondavi in the mid-1990s, their shared experimentation opened a new chapter in the history of the great Tuscan reds. From that meeting came a wine inspired by the desire to fulfil a dream: to create a wine in Montalcino — a land singled out for producing excellent wines — that would go beyond the boundaries of tradition, while recognising and celebrating the experience of two historic families of the wine world. This ambitious project took the name Tenuta Luce, a name that evokes the sunlight of Montalcino — the source of life and sustenance, marking the passage of the seasons and setting the pace of every task on the land. Tenuta Luce has honoured that vision ever since, and the estate's signature wine has been joined by other exceptional wines capable of transcending the boundaries of their territory and winning recognition at home and abroad. In 2005 Lamberto Frescobaldi, Vittorio's son, took over the leadership of the Tenuta Luce project. Today he is responsible for every aspect of production, from the vineyard to the creation of the blends for each vintage. His work, guided by deep respect for the land and its people, turns the fruit of the vineyards into refined wines that reflect the beauty of the place where they are born. In 2016, following its latest acquisition, Tenuta Luce gained a new winery — an underground structure perfectly integrated into the Montalcino landscape. It also houses the Luce collection, which, like an ancient library, preserves and tells the whole story of Luce. Here, as in the vineyards, the values of Tenuta Luce guide every choice. Alongside the natural beauty found in the vineyards, the winery holds a beauty built by human hands — one that inspires future generations to ever better work. Luce was the first wine in Montalcino to blend Sangiovese and Merlot: a fine harmony between the structure and elegance of Sangiovese and the roundness and softness of Merlot. Luce is the estate's emblematic wine, expressing, vintage after vintage, the family's original interpretation of these lands.
