Fifty years ago Jerry Lohr made a career change — one that went on to reshape the California wine landscape and create one of the most popular wine brands in the United States. In the late 1960s Jerry began a thorough study of California's grape-growing regions in search of the ideal site for his first vineyard. He had grown up on a farm in South Dakota, and his farming roots gave him an innate feel for the interplay of climate, soil and place. His research and his instincts led him to the Central Coast, a region only beginning to reveal its potential. Today J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines farms more than 560 hectares of cool-climate vineyards in the Arroyo Seco and Santa Lucia Highlands appellations of Monterey County, focused on Chardonnay, Riesling and Pinot Noir. The family also farms more than 1,100 hectares in Paso Robles — a region recognized as one of the world's finest for Cabernet Sauvignon and other Bordeaux and Rhône varieties. Nearly all the red wines in the J. Lohr portfolio come from there, confirming Jerry's early vision. J. Lohr also owns more than 12 hectares in Napa Valley — the well-known Carol's Vineyard, planted with Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. The company operates state-of-the-art winemaking facilities in Greenfield and Paso Robles, and the J. Lohr wine centers in San Jose and Paso Robles welcome thousands of visitors and wine lovers every year. From this rich and varied palette of sustainably grown grapes, J. Lohr produces wines that are expressive on the nose and true to their terroir, many of them award winners. Founded five decades ago and still family owned, J.
