Maryan Winery was founded in 2010 by Svetla and Iliya Ivanovi and their sons Petar and Vladimir, with the idea of producing small-batch wines in the foothills of the Stara Planina range — in the village of Maryan, in the Elena region. Together with oenologist Stefan Choranov, they make wines that reflect their philosophy of minimal intervention, letting the varietal character and strengths of each wine come through. The winery takes its name from the village of Maryan, where the wines are made with great dedication. The village's remarkable history is tied to the legend of the beautiful Kera Tamara — daughter of Tsar Ivan Alexander and sister of Tsar Ivan Shishman, the last Bulgarian ruler. With respect for centuries-old traditions and an eye on new technology, the winery produces white, rosé and red wines from Dimyat, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Mavrud, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The wines Kera Tamara, Sense of Tears and Ivan Alexander carry the memory of great ancestors and the energy of their heirs. The winery is open for visits and tastings.
