The story of the Tasca d'Almerita family in Sicily is written in the land it has tended for eight generations, always with deep respect for tradition and an eye on the future. Two hundred years of history have made up the "slow maturation" of the winery. Tenuta Regaleali, the original estate — 550 hectares in the heart of Sicily — has belonged to the Tasca d'Almerita family since 1830, when they set out to improve the local varieties and develop the territories with the greatest potential for vine growing. Over the years four more estates joined the family's holdings: Capofaro on Salina, Tascante on Etna, the historic Tenuta Whitaker on the ancient island of Mozia, and Sallier de La Tour in Monreale. Each estate has its own individuality and tells of an ever more varied Sicily. Olive trees, grain fields and almond trees grow alongside the vineyards. In the gardens, pastures and orchards, men and women work in step with the seasons to cultivate the finest produce, each place with its own character and its own rhythm. The greatest challenge today is to preserve these places so they remain intact for future generations — proof of constant attention to safeguarding every ecosystem. In 2012 Tasca d'Almerita was named "Winery of the Year" by Gambero Rosso. In 2019 Tasca d'Almerita was named "European Winery of the Year" by the respected magazine Wine Enthusiast for its sustainable viticulture. In 2021 the winery became one of 24 wineries in the world, and one of 3 in Italy, to receive the Robert Parker Green Emblem for sustainable viticultural practices.
