Raimat's story begins in 1914, when Manuel Raventós of the Codorníu family bought an estate with an old castle on the dry plains of Lleida, Catalonia. The castle gate bears a carving of grapes and a hand — raïm and mat in Catalan — which gave the place its name. Over the following century, the family turned near-barren land into a working wine estate, an early adopter of sustainable viticulture in Spain and a driving force behind the recognition of the Costers del Segre appellation. Raimat grows both international and local varieties; the Albariño in our catalogue shows the region's less expected side — an Atlantic grape raised in a continental climate, ripe and fresh at once.
