When Antonio Argiolas decided to stake his future on the wines of his region, he owned barely three hectares of land in Serdiana, a village 20 kilometres from Cagliari. Inherited from his father, this farm is where he planted his first vineyard. His idea grew and matured together with his love for his wife Bonaria and his family. In 1979 Antonio Argiolas, by then an established local entrepreneur, travelled to Argentina and California. Those journeys were a source of inspiration and the start of a revolution: they showed him the need to overcome the fragmentation of farmland then widespread on the island, and to use technologically advanced machinery to work larger areas of land. So Antonio acquired the land at Selegas — Sa Tanca and Susini, the winery's largest vineyards. These are the places Argiolas wines speak of, emblems of the strength, courage and foresight of the original idea. Antonio Argiolas dreamed of a winery able to tell the world its story, drawing strength from tradition. That ambition, safeguarded by his sons Franco and Giuseppe, is today in the hands of his grandchildren Valentina, Francesca and Antonio. Parents of a new generation themselves, they continue to build on the value of the land and its produce, investing in education and technology. Today the winery has become a point of reference for promoting the island's culture, wine, food and hospitality. Its encounters with the artistic and intellectual world that owes its creative force to Sardinia are likewise an engine of constant growth — fertile ground for projects and new ideas, a crossroads of stories with the power to travel across the sea.
