The story begins in Naoussa, Macedonia, in 1879, when Yiannis Boutari founded the winery that bears his name. In 1906 the family built the town's first private winery for retail sales, and in 1935 new horizons opened with their first wine exports, to Austria, Hungary and Egypt. In 1989 Boutari broke new ground again by investing in wine tourism, becoming the first winery to open its doors to visitors on Santorini. In 2004 their vineyard on Crete became home to what was at the time one of the most modern wineries in Europe. In 2022 the Boutari wineries turned a new page, joining the Sterner Stenhus Greece group. Respecting the history of a name synonymous with Greek wine, and maintaining and building on its high standards, Boutari's new era arrives with a promise to keep creating true artistry in wine.
