The Les Fumées Blanches estate lies in Gascony, in south-west France — a region known for its brandy, Armagnac. In 1997 François Lurton and his brother Jacques discovered this little-known terroir and realised it was the ideal place to grow Sauvignon Blanc and express the variety's true character. Les Fumées Blanches owes its name to the morning mist that drifts like white smoke ("fumée blanche") over the vineyards at the foot of the hills. Beyond creating a beautiful sight, it is also of real benefit to the vines, shielding them from the strong sun for part of the day.
