Calera is a vision, and Calera's wines truly express a sense of place. Rather than follow the mainstream, Josh Jensen became a pioneer of American Pinot Noir. Taking his cue from the great estates of Burgundy, which had grown grapes on limestone soils for centuries, he set out to find the precise spot in California where he could create distinctive wines in the style of the greatest wines of France. The choice of site was vital — and he dared to leave the familiar behind and stake everything on an old quarry in the Gavilan Mountains of California's Central Coast. Today Calera's wines still express that pioneering spirit and are admired around the world. Even Robert Parker was convinced: "Calera is one of the most compelling Pinot Noir specialists not only of the New World, but of planet Earth." The winery is part of the Duckhorn portfolio.
