Mikra Thira is the first winery ever built on Therasia, the small island facing Santorini across the caldera — the two were one landmass until the volcanic eruption some 3,600 years ago. The project brings together three established Greek winemakers: Vangelis Gerovassiliou, Vassilis Tsaktsarlis and Ioanna Vamvakouri. The vineyards are ungrafted, many of the vines more than 80 years old, planted almost entirely with Assyrtiko in volcanic ash and pumice; the first harvest came in 2018. The Santorini Assyrtiko in our catalogue carries the appellation's signature — taut acidity, smoky minerality and a saline finish that comes from this ground and nowhere else.
