In 1996 Ernst Loosen took over the Wolf winery in the Pfalz region, whose traditions date back to 1756. Villa Wolf is an Italian-style country villa of singular design, completed in 1843 to plans by the Karlsruhe architect Friedrich Eisenlohr. As with the Dr. Loosen winery, Ernst Loosen seized the opportunity to restore another traditional estate with first-class vineyards. Here he saw the potential to produce first-rate dry wines from the Pfalz, complementing the fruit-driven Rieslings of the Dr. Loosen estate on the Mosel. Sheltered by the surrounding mountains, the Pfalz enjoys a very mild, warm climate that is excellent for the development and ripening of the grapes.
