In the late 1990s, Grupo Barón de Ley decided to expand beyond Rioja DOCa. After a thorough study of several regions, they fell for the Cigales appellation — a territory with a long tradition of grape growing and a vast heritage of century-old vineyards that had been abandoned for lack of winery projects in the area. The fact that agronomist Tomás Jurío took charge of the project says much about the importance of the vineyards at Finca Museum. He spent years seeking out small treasures, identifying vineyards that the winery gradually purchased from local growers to assemble an estate of over 200 hectares. Finca Museum was thus founded in 2000.
